Quality1Direct is based in Ann Arbor and works across Southeast Michigan. Every town listed below is somewhere we genuinely work, which is the same standard we hold clients to when configuring their own service areas.
The counties
Washtenaw County is home. Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Saline, Dexter, Chelsea, Milan, Whitmore Lake, and the townships around them — Pittsfield, Scio, Superior, Ann Arbor Township.
Wayne County, particularly the western side: Canton, Plymouth, Northville, Livonia, Westland, Belleville, and into Dearborn and Detroit.
Oakland County: Novi, Wixom, South Lyon, Farmington Hills, Southfield, Royal Oak, Troy, Rochester Hills, Auburn Hills.
Livingston County: Brighton, Howell and the surrounding area.
Macomb County: Warren, Sterling Heights and the western edge.
What actually differs between these markets
The method does not change from town to town. Three things do.
Competitive density. Ranking in Chelsea and ranking in Novi are different projects for the same service. A category with two established competitors is a three-month conversation; the same category with eight is a year. This is the largest single factor in what an engagement costs and how long it takes.
Search volume. Denser markets have more searches, which can make a harder market worth more than an easy one. Both sides matter, and we look at them together during the audit rather than assuming that easier is better.
Local specifics. The university calendar shapes demand in and around Ann Arbor in ways it does not in Brighton. Township boundaries affect permits and how customers describe where they live. Drive time and map distance come apart along the corridors here in ways that make radius targeting unreliable.
How this applies to your own service area
The most common mistake we correct on client profiles is a service area that over-claims.
Google’s guidance on setting realistic service areas allows up to 20 areas and advises keeping the overall boundary within about two hours of driving time. That is a ceiling, not a target. Listing every town within two hours dilutes relevance and produces enquiries you turn down.
The opposite error is quieter and just as expensive: businesses that would happily drive to Saline but never listed it, and therefore never appear there.
The honest boundary is usually narrower than owners expect and includes at least one town they forgot. Getting it right is part of getting the Business Profile right.
Where we do not work
We occasionally take work outside Southeast Michigan, and we would rather not.
Most of what makes this useful is knowing the market — which competitors are entrenched where, how the calendar moves demand, why a radius does not describe a drive. Somewhere we do not know, we are a competent generalist, and competent generalists are available everywhere.
If you are outside this region, the more useful thing we can offer is a written audit you can execute with someone local.
Multiple locations
A business with several locations needs a different structure: a Business Profile and a landing page for each, with the website organised as a brand hub above location pages rather than as a single-location site.
That is more work and it needs planning from the start, because retrofitting it onto a single-location site means moving URLs. Worth raising in the first conversation if it applies.
